About Fiona Krüger Timepieces

Fiona describes what she does
as “An Artistic Approach to Haute Horlogerie” – when she thinks
of a watch she thinks of a blank canvas, when she looks at a movement she sees pattern, when she works with guillochage she’s working with light and shade . . . her approach is the same as
it was when she was making art, only now instead of paint and charcoal she’s working with
the best artisans in Switzerland.

Avant Guard (adj.)
“It may be characterized by non- traditional, aesthetic innovation and initial unacceptability and it may offer a critique of the relationship between producer and consumer.”

FIONA KRÜGER TIMEPIECES brings together the worlds of Watchmaking, Fine Art and Design. The unique combination of Fiona’s artistic practice with her chosen discipline, watchmaking, means that her avant-garde timepieces are instantly recognisable and rich in horological heritage. Through her collaborative approach, she is able to partner with the best independent artisans and manufacturers in Switzerland to bring to life her creations, whilst simultaneously highlighting her partners’ incredible talent.

Fiona’s passion for craftsmanship and innovation means she has also been sought out to design for some of the best brands in the Swiss watchmaking industry.
Artistic Vision: The artist’s preferred subject matter and style. The combination is sometimes so unique that the artist’s works, whatever they may be, are instantly recognizable.

Fiona’s multicultural background, coupled with her Fine Art and Design training, has allowed her not to be constrained by the rules of Haute Horlogerie whist being sensitive to its rich heritage and upholding its integrity in her unique creations.

Fiona’s timepieces are sold through a global network of the best fine watch boutiques. Her iconic Skull collection launched the brand in 2013 and set Fiona apart from the status quo. Her avant-garde attitude to watch design has allowed her to create pieces which truly stand out, whilst working with the most well-respected artisans and manufacturers in Switzerland today.

As well as developing new collections under her own name, her artistic vision extends beyond her own brand. Fiona has de- signed for some of the best names in watchmaking including Peter Speake-Marin, Ulysse Nardin, L’EPEE and Fabergé; each collaboration initiated by the desire to create something unique and evoke a sense of wonder.

Collaboration (n.)
To work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavour.

Fiona’s collaborative approach is simple: through her partnerships with key artisans, manufacturers, and other creative brands, she is able to design, consult on and co-create timepieces which have creativity at their core and innovation in their DNA.
Craftsmanship is a value intrinsic to Fiona’s creative process. She is devoted to working with the best producers in the industry, harnessing their passion and highlighting their incredible talent through her designs. Each of Fiona’s supply partners plays an integral role in the realisation of her creations. This collaborative spirit is part of a wider sense of community; Fiona is an ardent supporter of these incredible manufacturers and artisans, who are the bedrock of the fine watch industry. These partnerships are key to ensuring the future for some of the most creative makers in Switzerland today. They stem from the heritage of traditional watchmaking, which was founded on many independent ateliers, each a specialist in their own domain, working together. This collaborative practice ensures the industry remains creative and innovative, which is fundamental for its future.
Through her creations, Fiona’s clients become patrons of con- temporary horology by supporting the best independent artisans and manufacturers in Switzerland, who bring to life her designs.

Innovation (n.)
The introduction of something new. A new idea, method, or device.

Being innovative is a key criteria in each one of Fiona’s designs. With every piece she creates, Fiona strives to uphold the integrity of the people she works with, whilst making what they do look like something no-one’s ever seen before. It’s important to her that every design has a real “raison d’être”, and this, combined with a strong concept, becomes the backbone of her creations.

The desire to be innovative is what helps to make her pieces stand out, whilst showcasing the capabilities of the people she collaborates with and discovering new ways of working. This is a determining factor in all of her partnerships; as she works with people who are not only open to pushing the boundaries of what they do, but thrive on the challenge. This is reflected in the choice of partners for her first collection of watches; from AB Product with whom she developed and produced her unique case shape, to Kari Voutilainen’s dial factory, Comblémine, with whom she created the multi-layered guilloché dials of her watches.

The desire to be innovative is further echoed in the choice of brands she has designed for; from the independent spirit of Peter Speake-Marin, the ingenuity of Ulysse Nardin, the creativity of L’EPEE and the fantasy of Fabergé, each collaboration reminds you to expect the unexpected.

By carving out her own path in the watch industry, Fiona has given herself the creative freedom to make pieces which are defined only by her own creative process. Her design approach has been called “A New Metier D’Art” in itself,
and combined with her love of craftsmanship, drive for innovation and her collaborative spirit, it marks the beginning of a bigger story of horological discovery and adventurous watchmaking.

About Fiona

Fiona Krüger is a designer with a background in both Fine Art and Product Design. A passion for hand-made objects, tradition and craftsmanship are at the core of her work, which is why, upon completion of her Masters of Advanced Studies in Design for the Luxury Industry at ECAL in Switzerland, she decided to develop her own time-piece: the SKULL watch.

Her studies in Switzerland allowed her to experience first hand the world of Haute Horlogerie, and she was notably inspired by her visits to the Audemars Piguet Manufacture and the Patek Philippe Museum’s Antique watch collection. Fiona was captivated by the opportunity to bring together the mechanical, the hand-made and her love of Art through fine watchmaking.

Setting up Fiona Krüger Timepieces in 2013, Fiona launched an initial series of Limited Edition watches from her first collection, the Skull. She has extended the Skull collection into a number of iconic designs whilst developing new collections under her own brand. Fiona also works for other creative Haute Horlogerie brands, these collaborations have included designs for Speake-Marin, Febargé and a co-creation with Swiss clock manufacturer L’EPEE 1839.

Fiona works intuitively, responding to the materials, techniques or themes she chooses to explore. She has a keen eye for detail and collaborates with leading artisans and suppliers who share her passion for creativity. Fiona is able to draw on her fine art background, design training and international work experience to come up with a variety of creative solutions to suit each individual timepiece.
